As we settle into tax season, this is our final 2025 tax season reminder from Hayes Vickers Private Wealth. Our goal is to work with you all year to ensure you are ready for tax season. As part of your financial plan, we have important tax conversations in your annual meetings. In addition, in our November 28th 2025 blog and January 7th 2026 individual e-mail - we share guidance to help you prepare for tax season. Now, as filing season approaches, here again are some reminders to navigate your 2026 tax filing smoothly.

Key Dates: Mark Your Calendar

Critical deadlines for your 2025 tax year:

  • March 2, 2026: Final day to contribute to your RRSP for the 2025 tax year
  • April 30, 2026: Deadline to file your 2025 tax return (penalty-free)
  • June 15, 2026: Extended deadline for self-employed individuals

Tax slip timeline:

  • Mid-January through late March: Tax slips arrive progressively
  • February: T5 tax packages include checklists to organize outstanding documents
  • Late March: External mutual fund tax slips are issued

The Smart Approach: Don't Rush Your Filing

Here's an important reminder: Do not file before you have received all required tax slips. Filing prematurely can result in penalties or the need for costly amendments. Tax slips may arrive throughout March, so patience is your best strategy.

Streamline Your Process: Four Smart Moves

  • Go Paperless with Electronic Documents to safely view your account statements, tax documents, trade confirmations and more through Wealth Management (WM) Online, instead of receiving printed paper copies in the mail. You can sign up by clicking here.
  • Set Up Online Access to quickly and easily access your important account information (tax documents and statements), send and receive secure messages from us - from any device through RBC Wealth Management Online.
  • Connect your online banking at RBC with WM Online so you can transfer the funds you need between WM Online and RBC Online Banking, without ever having to leave your home. Here's how to get started.
  • Grant Your Accountant Access Use the RBC Trusted Partner Portal to authorize your accountant to access your tax documents and statements directly. This eliminates manual document sharing while keeping you in full control.
