Simplicity – One relationship, many services

  • Managing multiple relationships with consultants, investment managers, and administrators can be complex and time consuming. We streamline this process for our clients, acting as their central point of contact.
  • RBC’s in-house consulting team, Global Manager Research, has offices globally, continuously identifying and researching the highest quality investment specialists to partner with.
  • We provide customized reporting for clients, consolidating multi-manager reports and positions.

We significantly limit the use of pooled products in client portfolios, instead using Separately Managed Accounts (SMA). This is important because clients are the legal owners of the individual securities they own. They are not unit holders of a pooled product, which can be affected by the redemption decisions or influences of other investors in the pool and bring legal complications.

Efficiency – Customized solutions leveraging RBC’s global scale

  • Diversification is central to minimizing investment risk, which is why we are advocates of using a multimanager approach for your investment solution.
  • The best European Equity manager is not sitting in Toronto, the best US fixed income manager is not sitting in Vancouver. At RBC Dominion Securities, we partner with over 100 independent investment firms globally, giving clients access to global specialists.
  • As the lead Advisor, we work with clients to construct a customized Investment Policy Statement tailored to its specific needs. Tailored portfolios are then constructed with guidance from the IPS.
  • Given RBC’s scale and size across both Canada and the US, the fees paid to 3rd party managers are some of the lowest in the industry.

Objectivity – Fiduciary mentality

  • We are not obligated, compensated, or expected to purchase RBC or PH&N investment solutions for clients. If we conclude RBC / PH&N have the best solution in a specific asset class or sector, we will advise clients to use their solution, but only if they are industry leading amongst their independent peer group.
  • We continuously evaluate the managers chosen in client portfolios against customized benchmarks and their peers.
  • Like our clients, we are fiduciaries, and our advice and investment solutions are completely free of any conflicts of interest.
