The Key : A Rigorous Process

To ensure we always work in your best interest, we follow a rigorous process for developing and managing your financial plan.

1) Introduction

Our relationship begins with a preliminary meeting designed to assess your particular needs and present our working approach. During this meeting, we conduct a thorough examination of your situation to gather information about your family, profession, and financial circumstances. This interview allows us to accurately evaluate your investment objectives and risk tolerance, taking into account your needs, goals, financial constraints, and investment history.

2) Development of Your Investment Policy Statement

Following our initial meeting, we prepare a draft investment policy statement. This personalized document takes into account, in particular, the following elements: your current situation, your return expectations, your income needs, your risk tolerance, your investment horizon, and your preferences, while considering the legal and tax particularities applicable to your situation.

Based on these elements, we recommend an ideal asset allocation model. The allocation of your portfolio's assets among cash, fixed-income securities, equities, and commodities, and across geographic regions, is the most important element to consider in achieving a balance between risk and returns.

Once completed, your investment policy statement is signed by you and Gilles, and we implement the investment process that will remain in compliance with these guidelines.

3) Portfolio Elaboration

We then identify quality investment opportunities based on the ideal asset allocation for your portfolio while considering our economic and market perspectives. To select fundamentally sound securities, we evaluate the quality of managers, products, geographic distribution of revenues, currency risk, and financial data of companies over the past five years. We also conduct technical analysis of securities for their acquisition at an opportune time.

Our analyses are complemented by the views of senior economists, portfolio strategists, and RBC analysts. We also draw upon research from partners such as J.P. Morgan, Standard & Poor's, and Value Line, as well as independent research to provide a comprehensive view of investment choices and economic context.

For clients whose objective is reliable income, we consider blue-chip stocks from Canadian, American, and international companies paying regular dividends as well as AAA-rated bonds. We also consider government, provincial, municipal, and corporate bonds, or preferred shares of well-established companies, while adhering to our standards of quality and tax efficiency.

4) Portfolio Management

Periodically, we review your portfolios with you to ensure the evolution and selection of your investments given market and economic developments. This meeting also provides an opportunity to discuss the evolution of your personal, professional, and financial situation as well as that of your business to identify any changes needed to your objectives or risk tolerance. We also conduct a detailed review of changes in your accounts over the past year, positions held and proposed, and market outlooks for the coming year.

5) Information on Your Progress

Each month, you receive a detailed account statement showing the activity in your portfolio and providing the market value of all your positions. Additionally, you receive a quarterly calculation of your returns. You also have access to your accounts and current market information daily through our online services and website.
