The Private Investment Management program at RBC Dominion Securities is fully discretionary and available through a select group of tenured advisory teams.

What we do

Our team primarily utilizes the Private Investment Management (PIM) program for discretionary asset management for a variety of our clients' investment accounts. This program provides clients with a fully discretionary asset management service, completely tailored towards the financial aspirations of each individual client. PIM provides clients with many benefits, including fiduciary standards of care, the confidence that opportunities are being capitalized, and complete transparency. It also provides clients with personal time flexibility—all for a competitive investment management fee. 

How we do it

The Private Investment Management program at RBC Dominion Securities is fully discretionary, meaning that the account is run without the need for ongoing trade authorizations from the client. This allows the advisor to efficiently manage the investment capital within the predefined objectives set out in a formal Investment Policy Statement (IPS). It also allows the busy families and institutions that often utilize this program to focus on what is truly important in their lives and organizations, instead of the ongoing minutia of asset management.

Investment Planning

Once a client has been onboarded, an initial introduction and strategy meeting will commence establishing the parameters of the investment policy statement and creating strategies that fit our clients’ unique goals and aspirations. The investment component of our wealth planning service is focused on outlining a definitive strategy for our clients, taking into account current assets and selecting the appropriate investment accounts.

This process is initiated through an investment policy statement (IPS), a formal document that outlines the guidelines set forth in a private investment management account, all of which is customized to meet our clients’ wealth expectations. This document will outline the client’s financial status, return objectives, risk tolerance, time horizon, unique circumstances, and more.

Financial Planning

Financial planning is a foundational aspect in the overarching picture of wealth management. This process is facilitated by a fully exhaustive financial plan and is personalized by our Certified Financial Planner (CFP). We recognize that all of our clients’ wealth aspirations are unique in nature, and therefore each financial plan is specific to each individual.

Financial planning with the team includes a variety of variables, all of which are combined to form a multi-faceted and financially sound time adjusted plan. The initial financial planning engagement will be utilized to create our client’s financial plan, beginning with an initial review of their current situation, finances and goals. Once an established plan has been implemented, further financial planning will be directed at reviewing current financial stature, optimizing credit, and creating efficiencies where our Certified Financial Planner recognizes opportunity.

Will & Estate Planning

A critical component to our wealth planning service is will and estate planning. This can be an essential component to the wealth planning process and provides clarity into our clients’ future financial activities along with planning for potential dependables. Given the critical nature of will and estate planning the team ensures that all of the necessary regulatory requirements are fulfilled through a third-party consultant, as required, to ensure each of our clients’ estate plan is constructed in the most efficient way to capture their wishes.

When the team engages in will and estate planning our clients’ goals are consistently prioritized in the process. We recognize that everyone holds unique values and ideas with regards to their future along with a distinct time horizon, financial situation and more.

Life Insurance Planning

Insurance planning is a critical component to a well-rounded wealth plan. No one likes purchasing or paying for life insurance, but it is often a necessary element to our clients’ overall wealth aspirations. Insurance can provide many benefits including lost income coverage, debt and tax liability mitigation, liquidity provision, and an avenue of transferring wealth to the next generation.

With insurance professionals available through our partner RBC Wealth Management Financial Services Inc, this process is carried out entirely in house, maintaining the team’s family office style experience. When the team recognizes that a life insurance plan can provide benefit, a suitable insurance policy will be presented that is tailored to each unique individual.

Tax Planning

From the moment our team begins a relationship, tax efficiency is at the core of our operation. It is important to the team that our clients’ capital is allocated in the most efficient manner. Tax efficiency is a critical element to a successful wealth plan, where professional consultation is likely to provide a substantial difference with a continuously evolving regulatory framework.

Tax planning with the team includes multiple levels of professional advice. From our Portfolio Managers, Certified Financial Planner and collaboration with third party financial professionals, thoroughness is at the core of our tax planning strategies. Furthermore, tax efficiency is perpetually at the forefront of our operations and is an element that we prioritize throughout all wealth planning activities.
