Pension-style investing. Wealth planning built around your family.

As your wealth grows, so does its complexity. Managing it all requires both a broader view of your wealth and a sophisticated approach to investing.

The Morton Parsons Family Wealth Group brings these capabilities together, building portfolios like institutions while helping you navigate the many considerations that shape your family's future.

Corporate building icon.

We invest with institutional discipline.

We build portfolios the way sophisticated pension plans do: with long-term discipline, broad-based diversification, private-market exposure and access to world-class managers.

Winding arrow icon.

We bring clarity to complexity.

We help you make sense of all the moving pieces—from business ownership to tax, estate, succession and family considerations—and find the right path forward.

Professional team icon.

We work as one established team.

We’ve spent years working together and collaborating with the same RBC specialists and experts. These longstanding relationships help us anticipate and coordinate advice around your family’s priorities.

Our approach was shaped by working alongside many of Canada’s top institutional investors through the 2008 financial crisis. That experience has guided our practice ever since.

HOW WE HELP

Helping you grow, preserve and plan for your wealth.

We bring together investment management, comprehensive wealth planning and attentive personal service, all built around your family. As your circumstances evolve, we review and adapt your strategy to reflect your priorities.

Investment management

Pension-style investing. Built around you.

We apply the principles used by sophisticated pension plans—long-term discipline, broad diversification and access to experienced investment managers—to portfolios tailored to your goals. Combining public and private market investments, we seek to grow your wealth, manage risk and provide tax-efficient income according to your needs.

Wealth management

Clarity for decisions beyond your portfolio.

As your wealth grows, the questions become more complicated. What does it mean for the business you've built? The people you care for? And the legacy you leave behind? We help you think through it all, bring in the right experts at the right time and keep all the pieces working together so you can move forward with confidence.

Business ownership brings with it some of the most complex financial decisions. Whether you’re growing, transitioning or selling, we help you manage the tax, estate and family considerations.

Your wealth is about more than your portfolio—it’s about your people. We help you navigate estate and succession issues and opportunities so your decisions support the life you’ve built and the generations to come.

Family wealth is most likely to endure when every member understands their history and is aligned in values. We help you, your children and their children define what wealth means to your family, establish governance structures and translate your vision into a plan.

Working with our established RBC insurance specialists, we help protect your family, your business and your wealth against the risks that matter most, structuring coverage and solutions that synchronize with your broader plan.

When done properly, charitable giving benefits both society and you. We help you structure your giving in a way that reflects your values and supports the causes that matter most to you and your family.

Farming wealth is often capital-intensive, tax-sensitive and deeply tied to family. Whether managing large-scale operations, planning for succession or navigating a potential sale, we help you balance liquidity, tax considerations and generational transition.

CLIENT STORIES

We're proud of the relationships we've built with our clients.

There's no better way to understand how we work than by hearing directly from the people we serve.

"We were looking for someone to handle our financial affairs. After meeting with Darrell we thought it would be a perfect fit. We’ve been very happy with him for the last 7 years."

–Linda, retired

"The team brought clarity and direction to our financial planning, identifying gaps we hadn’t considered and guiding us through the steps to address them. Their thorough approach and dependable support gave us confidence that our finances were in good hands.”

–Sean and Venessa

"It’s beneficial to me to have a team of advisors who handle my day-to-day affairs allowing me more time to focus on medicine and the more enjoyable things in life like family."

–Matthew, physician

I'll never forget helping a client through the unexpected loss of her spouse, the person who had always managed the finances. She was grieving, overwhelmed and unsure where to even begin. Walking her through it step by step and watching her go from feeling lost to feeling confident enough to manage things on her own was incredibly rewarding.

Strategies for young investors.

With our practical guidance and smart strategies, we help your children and grandchildren start building wealth early.

Starting out can feel overwhelming, but a few smart decisions early on can make a big difference over time. Here's a quick overview of the account types every young investor should know about.

FHSA (First Home Savings Account)

  • Tax-deductible contributions
  • Tax-free growth and withdrawals for first home purchase
  • Contribution room accrues at $8,000/year, unused room carries forward
  • $40,000 lifetime contribution limit

Limitations:

  • Available only to first-time home buyers
  • Funds must be used for home purchase within set timeframe
  • Not suitable for long-term retirement savings

TFSA (Tax-Free Savings Account)

  • Tax-free growth and withdrawals with no income restrictions
  • Flexible access any time without penalties
  • Contribution room accrues at $7,000/year starting at age 18, unused room carries forward indefinitely

Limitations:

  • Contributions not tax-deductible
  • Lower annual limits than RRSP
  • Not optimal as primary retirement vehicle

RRSP (Registered Retirement Savings Plan)

  • Tax-deductible contributions based on 18% of previous year's earned income (max $33,810 in 2026)
  • Tax-deferred growth until retirement
  • Contribution room carries forward indefinitely
  • Home Buyers Plan allows borrowing up to $60,000 for first home

Limitations:

  • All withdrawals are fully taxable as income
  • Early withdrawals trigger withholding taxes and penalties
  • Mandatory minimum withdrawals begin at age 71

Non-registered investment accounts

  • Unlimited contribution room with no accrual limits
  • No withdrawal restrictions; complete investment flexibility

Limitations:

  • Capital gains and investment income fully taxable annually
  • Less tax-efficient than registered accounts

Quick recommendations for young investors...

  • Planning to buy a home? Prioritize FHSA for immediate savings with tax benefits
  • Want flexible savings? Max out TFSA contributions
  • Long-term wealth building? Contribute to RRSP for tax deductions
  • After maxing registered accounts? Use non-registered accounts
