In the community

With over four decades of helping the Cayman Islands community protect and grow their wealth, RBC Dominion Securities Global Limited (RBC Dominion Securities) is committed to the Cayman Islands for generations to come. We want to do our part to create a thriving community where we all succeed in reaching our goals, be them financial or otherwise.

Covid-19 Community Donations

RBC Dominion Securities announced a donation for non-profit organizations across the Caribbean supporting food security for at-risk families during the coronavirus pandemic. An initial donation was given at the outset, and after matching client and staff donations, the total reached USD $31,914 to Cayman Food Bank.

RBC initially donated over USD $330,000 to Red Cross societies across the Caribbean. This is in addition to RBC's global commitment of more than CAD $2 million to fight COVID-19 through partners such as the World Health Organization's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, Feeding America, and Food Banks Canada.

Financial Literacy Program

RBC Wealth Management launched a new learning platform, the RBC WM Financial Literacy Program, offering a comprehensive approach to building sound financial management skills for younger generations.

RBC Dominion Securities partnered with Cayman International School to offer this program to Year 10 students. Advisors help students learn the basics including how money, taxes, mortgages and loans work, as well as how to make, save and invest their money.

A Walk in her Shoes for the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre

The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre invites gentlemen to participate in the annual A Walk in Her Shoes, which takes place just before International Women's Day. The event raises funds and awareness for local domestic violence victims and children, as domestic violence does not discriminate against age, gender, race, ethnicity, economic status or sexual orientation.

RBC Dominion Securities staff were delighted to participate in the 2020 Walk, raising over CI$1,000 in donations.

‘Making Waves’ breakfast fundraiser in aid of the Special Needs Foundation Cayman

Special Needs Foundation Cayman provides comprehensive support services for persons with special needs, ensuring they reach their maximum potential. They offer support and advice for schools, parents and families (including respite), and training for SEN professionals.

The Making Waves breakfast provided a platform for four parents and one sibling to share their stories about living with a family member who has a developmental or intellectual disability. RBC Dominion Securities hosted two tables at this event, which raised pledges of $25,000 from government, $100,000 from a private company, and 44 'dream makers' who committed to donate.

Alex Panton Foundation Annual Youth Mental Health Symposium

The Alex Panton Foundation raises awareness of mental illnesses affecting children and young adults in the Cayman Islands, with a focus on anxiety and depression. The Foundation provides hope and resources to help save the lives of children and young adults struggling with mental illness.

The 3rd Annual Youth Mental Health Symposium took place on Saturday 22nd February at The Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman with the theme "Empowering Youth. Inspiring Hope." The Symposium featured international and local speakers from various perspectives, shedding light on services available and discussing issues affecting youth mental health today.

RBC Dominion Securities was a proud Community Sponsor of the 2020 Symposium.

Cayman Arts Festival

Beginning in 2014, RBC Dominion Securities partnered with the Cayman Arts Festival (CAF) to implement an After-School Instrumental Music Programme with government primary schools across Cayman. Using annual grants from RBC, CAF provides music education to students both after school and during vacations.

RBC Dominion Securities also sponsored the Cayman Arts Festival 2020, which took place from 13-22 February. All proceeds fund their youth education program, providing musical instruments, workshops with visiting artists, and lessons at local schools.

Jasmine Flag Day

Jasmine is a non-profit committed to enhancing the lives of people living with life-limiting illnesses, providing long-term emotional and spiritual support for patients and their loved ones. Services include doctor and nursing visits, medical equipment, prescriptions, in-patient care, caregivers, hospice volunteers, grief counselling, and holistic therapies.

RBC Dominion Securities participated in their annual flag weekend fundraiser, raising donations to maintain these essential services.

Nationwide Stride for Cancer

The Nationwide Stride Against Cancer benefits the Cayman Islands Cancer Society and takes place on the last Sunday each January.

The Society's mission is to increase awareness of cancer as a major health concern, prevent cancer development, and counsel and support cancer patients and their families. They focus on education and prevention programmes, provide financial and counseling support, facilitate a cancer survivor's network, and lobby for relevant legislative changes.

RBC Dominion Securities participated in the annual fun run, fundraising towards this great charity.

Hurricane Dorian Relief

After Hurricane Dorian's devastating effect in the Bahamas in September 2019, the RBC Dominion Securities team launched a clothing drive. The response was overwhelming. The campaign ran for one month, with the Cayman office becoming headquarters for the drive.

In the first two weeks, the team boxed 3,600 lbs of clothing to ship. By campaign's end, another 8,500 lbs was ready. With assistance from the Nassau branch, shipments were sent to local charity HeadKnowles, where a storefront was created for evacuees to select items they needed.

"I think our community is really sympathetic to the realities of being caught in a hurricane and so we really wanted an opportunity to help," said Andrew McCartney, Managing Director of RBC Dominion Securities. "In the end, our message struck an emotional tone far beyond corporate responsibility and I'm so proud of everyone involved."
