Risk isn't just about the upside—it's about what you're willing to lose. What if you reframed failure not as loss, but as information? Colleen explores asymmetric risk: unlimited upside with a capped downside. That's how she moves through life, choosing intentional investments over reckless bets. The question worth asking yourself: What would you try if the downside was limited but the upside was wide open? Business owners: Your exit strategy should work the same way—protecting what you've built while maximizing your wealth potential. Risk.
Return.
I’ve been thinking about risk lately - not just the risk of trying, but the risk of not trying.
The opportunity risk.
I asked myself this question: What would I try if failure didn’t mean a loss… but simply a plateau?
If failure meant no real change.
No step backward.
Just information gained.
That’s a very different way of looking at things.
An unlimited upside with a limited downside.
I recently read about the difference between symmetric and asymmetric risk.
It really boils down to this - you can’t lose what you don’t have.
Maybe that’s why, in my personal life, I’d rather invest in a beautiful pair of shoes or a luxurious handbag than spin a roulette wheel.
Tangible.
Intentional.
Known downside.
Appreciated upside.
So here’s the question I’m sitting with and I invite you to think about too…
What would you try if the downside was capped - but the upside was wide open?
