Somers Private Wealth of RBC Dominion Securities
We take pride in making your wealth feel simple and helping you sleep soundly at night. Working with your goals, hopes, and concerns, we’ll show you just what your money can do.

It starts with a conversation

Every client of Somers Private Wealth starts off with the same investment – one hour of their time.

In that hour, we ask questions. What is your past investment experience? What keeps you up at night? Tell us about your business or family, and the future you envision for them all. Understanding you completely is a critical first step to what we do: simplifying your financial life, managing every dollar you’ve earned like we would our own, and drawing on the know-how of our team and partners to save you money throughout your life.

We’re here to listen to your story, make sense of your financial world, and build your wealth with your personal goals in mind.

Our team of expert advisors takes pride in making your wealth feel simple. Whether you’re running a business, organizing an estate, or just managing personal wealth, we will tailor an easy-to-follow plan that brings you closer to your goals.

Investment management

Your portfolio will depend on your personal goals, but in general, we seek steady, dependable, long-term growth. And, nearly every investment we make is backed by RBC’s team of top analysts, the Portfolio Advisory Group.

Financial planning

With a background in financial planning, Brendan and Don are passionate about uncovering ways to enhance wealth. They learn everything there is to know about your needs and circumstances, create projections for your financial future, and help you take the right steps towards accomplishing your goals.

Business owner planning

We make finance one less thing you have to worry about. As you focus on your business, we can prepare for succession, minimize your personal and corporate tax bill, and generate the investment income you need to enjoy your lifestyle.

Will & estate planning

We ensure you have an air-tight estate strategy in place – one that not only protects your legacy, but provides clarity and comfort to your family in a difficult time. You can leave it to us to lead this charge, collaborating with the Estate Planning Specialists of RBC, as well as your own lawyer.

Tax & insurance strategies

Are you and your spouse getting the most efficient tax return? How are your family assets structured, and how might tax-exempt insurance products save you money in the long run? These are the kinds of questions we ask and act on as we examine your financial affairs.

We work closely with partners at RBC Private & Premier Banking to ensure your savings, credit, and loan requirements are integrated into the wealth strategy we build. It’s just one of the ways we strive to be your first call for any financial need.

Supporting our community

Fill The Truck Event

Thanks to all who came to the Courtenay branch during our first annual Fill The Truck Event on October 26, 2023, to support the Comox Valley Food Bank. Together, our branch raised $1,500 from the RBC Communities Together Fund plus your $2,735 in on-site donations for a total of $4,235. Plus, the amount of food we received weighed in at 500 pounds! Thank you for making our very first Fill The Truck Event a success, and we look forward to hosting this event each year

Mayor’s Golf Charity Classic

The 2022 Mayor’s Golf Charity Classic wrapped up its 15th year with a presentation of cheques to local charities. It was wonderful to have Charlene Davis (We Can Shelter), Cindy Xavier and Pam Crowe (CVCDA) and Mike Fournier (Comox Valley Search and Rescue) attend and receive their cheques. In total, the 2022 Mayor’s Golf Charity Classic raised $58,100 for local charities. The committee would like to thank all the sponsors, volunteers and golfers that made this event possible. We are very excited to be hosting it again this year – make sure to block your calendar for September 8th, 2023!

YANA: Annual Christmas Cracker volunteer crafting and sponsorship

For almost twenty years, YANA has welcomed the holiday season by making and selling Christmas Crackers in support of local children and families. Since 2022, Somers Private Wealth is the Christmas Cracker sponsor contributing $5,000 annually. With our support, 100% of every Christmas Cracker sale could be directed to accommodation and travel funding for YANA families. Many volunteers, retailers, and Cracker purchasers in the Comox Valley and beyond contributed to making this fundraiser another huge success!

Coldest Night of the Year - Comox Valley Transition Society and Dawn to Dawn

Thousands of Canadians across the country take part in this event, raising funds to support people and families experiencing homelessness, hurt and hunger in our community. For the last several years, Somers Private Wealth have volunteered to contribute to this event at the registration desk by checking in teams and collecting fundraising money, ensuring the event runs smoothly with maximum impact.
